Motorola Backflip – CFW

AT&T

Motorola Backflip is the first Android smartphone released on AT&T network, released in 2010.

With many shattered guides about Backflip, aka MB300, I consolidated this information.

Prerequisites

  • Windows 7+ computer
  • Motorola Backflip
  • microSD card

Initial steps

  1. Find out if your device is already rooted (e.g., that Superuser or SuperSU app is present) and what the Operating System (OS) version is. Perhaps this guide does not need to apply. Otherwise, you can discover the OS version by accessing,
Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> OS version

  2. Make a backup of all your sensitive data.
  3. Download and install official Motorola drivers, 32bit or 64bit.

Root

On stock Android 1.5

1 Download All you need to flash Motorola phones.
2. Follow instructions in this archive link.

On stock Android 2.1 Eclair

Recovery

  1. Download j_r0dd-mb300-v2.0.zip (v2.7.11) / mirror
  2. Follow the instructions corresponding to your Android version,

Custom firmware

  1. Push firmware file onto SD card. For Motorola Backflip, CM7 (Cyanogenmod 7) and j_r0dd’s Preclair (1.2+) are available.
  2. While the phone is connected to PC in adb mode, run,
    adb reboot recovery

  3. When in recovery mode, pick “install new firmware” -> “from SD card” -> pick desired file.
  4. After installation complete, go to Storage -> Clean user data.
  5. Finally, clean cache and Dalvik-cache, and Reboot.
